In this tour to the roots of tradition we will learn about the ancient Roman past of these lands and the processing of grapes and olives. These essential agricultural products, together with wheat, form the cornerstone of the Mediterranean diet and were all introduced to Hispania by Greeks and Romans thousands of years ago. We will first visit the facilities of a famous local winery and enjoy a fine wine tasting in a beautiful setting. Then we will proceed to Tarragona and visit the archeological heritage of the Imperial Tarraco, which is endowed with a beautifully preserved amphitheater. After Tarragona, we will learn about local rural lifestyle in a traditional Catalan farmhouse. We will visit its own 18th century oil mill, where we will understand how olives are pressed to oil and taste different kinds of our liquid gold. We will end with a first rate traditional lunch at the very farmhouse.
