Our tour begins in Pamplona, famous worldwide for the Running of the Bulls, portrayed by Ernest Hemingway in the novel “The sun also rises”. We will then travel to the small village of Roncesvalles. It is there where the French Way (one the most popular routes of the Way of Saint James) starts in Spain.

So as to best prepare ourselves, we will spend our first night in the hostel-monastery for pilgrims of the 12th century Collegiate Church of Our Lady of Roncesvalles. During the next three days we will walk through wild landscapes and dense forests. We will stop to rest at villages lost in time like Burguete, Hemingway’s favorite fishing place in the area. We will cross streams of crystalline waters over ancient bridges. We will walk along a very ancient paved road, just like Imperial Roman legions had. We will climb steep hills. It will be challenging but the magnificent views from the top will be worth the effort. We will admire spectacular monuments such as the city walls of Pamplona or the 6-eye Romanesque bridge of Puente La Reina. We will stay at small quiet rural hotels of great charm. For a few days, we will distance ourselves from the noise of the world and enjoy contact with nature. We are sure that by the end of this hiking experience you will feel mentally renewed and very happy. However, a few days are just not enough to walk all the 790 km long Camino that leads to Santiago de Compostela. At Unison Routes we will be delighted to arrange the next leg of the hike to Santiago for you next year!
