Modernism (Art Noveau) is woven into the fabric of Barcelona.
We will visit two masterpieces of local architecture, both UNESCO listed and designed by the two great architects of early 20th-century Barcelona: Antoni Gaudí and Lluis Domenech i Montaner.
We will first explore Gaudí’s world-famous and yet unfinished Basilica, the Sagrada Familia.
We will then learn about the lesser-known Montaner by discovering the underappreciated Santa Creu and Sant Pau Hospital.
A huge Art Noveau ensemble with quiet gardens, this hospital conceals an underground network of tunnels connecting the former medical wards to the old operating theater.
